PARISH OFFICE:OPEN EVERY WEEKDAY: 8.00AM - 5.00.PM. The main sanctuary remains open all day on Wednesday from 8am - 6pm for anyone who’d wish to come in to pray.

The archdeaconry has twenty two churches, out of which only two are consecrated. These include: St. Andrew’s Cathedral and Ithanga The rest are under construction and most of them worship in semi-permanent structures. Only one parish has a vicarage; the rest has rented houses for the vicar/curate and evangelists.

  1. Introduce Kikamba service in ACK Thungururu and Muti churches in Thungururu Parish.

Christians within the archdeaconry differ in terms of socio-economic status. In the upper zone, majority of Christians are in formal employment while some are casual labourers. Majority of those in the lower zone are peasant farmers where they major subsistence farming. There have been seminars organised in various industries in Thika town geared towards transforming Christian’s social and economic lives as well as having career days.

The New Cathedral Archdeaconry came into effect on 1stJanuary, 2016 after the split of the Old Cathedral Archdeaconry to create Cathedral and Makongeni Archdeaconries.
The new archdeaconry covers Thika East, Thika West, Gatanga and some parts of Maragua Districts in Kiambu and Murang’a Counties.

Challenges

  1. Low number of men attend church especially in the lower zone. In fact, in some churches there are no men in Sunday services e.g. A.C.K. St. Stephen’s, Mukundi in Thungururu Parish and Wendani, Ngatho in Matunda Parish. Read more: Challenges

The archdeaconry has an Anglican population of 4,311 (Parish Data Analysis 1st, 2nd& 3rd Quarters 2015) served by eleven clergy, twenty one lay-readers and five Evangelists. There have been seminars organized for Christian empowerment and leadership development at the parish and archdeaconry levels since its inception.
